The Doggies!

About Lily, Rhodesian Ridgeback, 2.5 years old | Rescue from Cleveland, OH

Lily entered the world on May 16, 2013.  She entered our lives August 18, 2013, as a rescued puppy who was 12 weeks old, living at a foster home.  We weren’t exactly sure what she was, as her paperwork only said “hound mix” but quickly found out she most definitely is a ridgeless Rhodesian Ridgeback.

She’s absolutely beautiful.  Her eyes are soulful, her face… so sweet.  She’s well-behaved and can be taken anywhere, without worrying about other dogs or people.  If there was every a thing as an ideal dog, she would be it.

She is beyond sweet, loyal, and loves to eat more than anyone I know.  She hates rain and will “hold it” as long as needed to make sure she doesn’t get wet.  Oddly enough, though, she LOVES snow!  Extremely sensitive and obedient, training another dog will never be as easy as training Lily.  She is slightly anxious and nervous, but very secure in her place in the world and our life.  Not a big lap dog but you can almost always find her snuggled up under the blankets when it’s time for bed.

Lily is my soul mate dog.  My best friend.  My happy place.  She is why I love dogs and ultimately the only reason we ended up rescuing Romeo!

About Romeo, American Pit Bull Terrier mix, 3.5 years old | Rescue from Columbus, OH

Romeo came to us on August 5, 2014, as we saved him from being euthanized!  According to his paperwork, he was 2 years and 1 week old when he entered the shelter on July 25, 2014, but we consider his birthday to be August 5th.  He was labeled a “pit bull mix” but based on his big head and less than stocky body (like most bully breeds have), we believe he has some mastiff or Corso in him.

When we first got him you could tell he was used to be hit.  Ducking his head out-of-the-way was normal the first year we had him.  I am incredibly happy to say, even when he knows he has misbehaved, he doesn’t hide his head anymore.  He now just tilts it kinda low while looking up at us like, “Oh, Mom… I’m sorry… I really didn’t mean to get into the garbage.”

He is the definition of a LOVER.  A lap dog.  A dog in need of love.  You can always count on Romeo to snuggle up right next to you or right on top of you!  Where Lily is my best friend, Romeo is the little boy who needs a mom to reassure him that he’s safe and sound.  A role I gladly and proudly take on.  He is the reason I love pit bulls and will, for the rest of my life, fight for their rights.

He’s also incredibly handsome.
